Christmas and New Year In Paris
Christmas time sees Paris sparkle and shimmer in a fairytale atmosphere - the Christmas decorations and lights seem even more vivid in the crisp clear winter evenings. Not to be missed are the decorations of the Galeries Lafayette - a cascade of colours covering the front of the building.
Every year, from the beginning of December until the end of the season, an ice rink is created in front of the majestic Hotel de Ville - the City Hall. You'll be enchanted by the skaters surrounded by beautiful buildings beside the Seine. You can rent skates for Euro5.
Of course there's the traditional New Year extravaganza, with everything from a fireworks display over the Eiffel Tower to exuberant parades down the city's thoroughfares. And after New Year it's time for the grand Paris sales with up to 50% reductions in most shops.

101 Things to do in Paris
Planning a trip to Paris but not sure how long to spend there and what to do? You'll find lots of ideas on the "Plan your Stay" page of our Paris rentals web site www.rentals.chsparis.com - in fact, to be precise, you'll find 101! Whoever you are - culture vulture, jazz lover, bargain hunter, fashionista, café lizard, bar hound, party beast, nature lover - there's something for everyone here. Here is a random sample:
13. Centre Pompidou
One of the world's most important modern art museums, with significant holdings of some of the world's most influential artists including Matisse, Kandinsky, and Picasso. Visitors are also drawn by the building itself with its "inside out" architecture that has been the centre of much critical comment. Métro: Chatelet-les-Halles / Hôtel de Ville
20. Puces de St Ouen
The largest of Paris's flea markets, it's easy to loose oneself whilst browsing the acres of fine antiques, covetable curios and general bric-a-brac. Perfect for a Sunday walk. Métro: Porte de Clignoncourt
64. Salons de Thé
No visit to Paris is complete without a visit to one of the city's many tea rooms. Nowhere does tea and cakes as well as Paris and nowhere with such elegance. A couple of favourites: Le Loire dans la Thélière, 3 rue des Rosiers. Métro: St-Paul
Mariages Frères, 30 rue Bourg-Tibourg. Métro: St-Paul
