London's Marked-down Digs: Frugal Flats, a Budget
B&B and More for February, March and April Having lived in London for eight years, I can predict with some degree of accuracy that February this winter shouldn't be bitingly cold, thanks to the ameliorating climate usually borne to the British Isles by the Gulf Stream. Prices won't be jacked up for the tourist season yet to come, lines outside attractions should be quite short to virtually non-existent, and the holiday rush will be safely behind everyone. The chance to stay at The Coach House for as little as $50 a night (per person), with breakfast, remains a constant, however. Why go in February? Theater, for one reason. In addition to late favorites, you could check out those old warhorses, Macbeth (until March 29, 2003) or HMS Pinafore (through March 1, 2003). For fun, see the Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged), cut down to a seriously funny two hours, in fact, as performed by the Reduced Shakespeare Company (through March 30. 2003). Also of interest, A Century of Royal Wedding Dresses at Kensington Palace through April 1, 2003, and "Bond, James Bond" until March 2, 2003 at the Science Museum. The largest single Aztec exhibit ever mounted is featured at the Royal Academy of Arts until April 11, 2003. We've praised Coach House London Vacation Rentals in this Newsletter several times in the past year, and I'd like to do so again today. You can rent fully furnished flats or apartments or stay in their own B&B, with prices as low as $50 per person per night up to around $225 for an elegant duplex in the heart of Chelsea, which sleeps two comfortably, and even the occasional drop-by third person. (Use reference code DRP when inquiring.) On Hyde Park Place W2, there's a stylish 1930s themed apartment overlooking Hyde Park available from now through March 30, 2003, at a 20% discount off the regular price of about $170 per night if you stay seven or more days (reference code HHP). And, down in trendy Chelsea, the Chelsea Cloisters on Sloane Avenue SW3 contains a modern flat in a building with a porter, for the same period, with the same reduced rate possibilities. Sleeps 3 adults or 2 adults and one or two children. Rate before deduction about $145 a night. The company's B&B, The Coach House, is located in SW 17, and is offering varying discounts off the normal price (from $50 per person, per night), with breakfast, now through April 25, 2003.
