How To Choose Your Rental
Choosing your London rental may seem a daunting proposition but it isn't as difficult as it may seem. These guidelines will help you make the right choice.
- Don't rush it - give yourself time! You are about to invest a substantial amount of money and, even more precious, your time on a trip to London. It's worth spending just a little bit more time to get it right. First step is to buy a good London guide book (or two) and get to know a bit about the place. London is a collection of many different areas, each with their own personality and character. Don't get too fixed on any one area - guide books can be notoriously biased, even blinkered! If you do a little reseach, when you review your options you'll be able to have an informed opinion. All our properties are hand picked and in locations where we ourselves would be happy to stay! They are all in safe areas with easy access to the tube. Some, like properties BWE, THD and PPQ are in really unusual locations but have proved very popular with our guests.
- Price. Factors that affect the price are: closeness to "the centre" - whatever that means, as the actual centre of London is hard define - size of the property and number of people it will comfortably sleep, and quality of the accommodation - furnishing, fittings, decorations etc.. Thus a smart flat for 2 or 3 in Knightsbridge or Belgravia may cost the same a modest family house sleeping 7 some 20 minutes tube ride away. Irrespective of location, size or smartness, wherever you stay you'll receive the same standard of service from us.
- Location. Why are you coming to London? For the theatre? Museums? The sights? Shopping? Out of town day trips? Business? There is very little good residential accommodation within walking distance of most of these things so you will need to use the tube - like we all do in London. When you choose your accommodation do consider the transport links. Go to our Useful London Links and follow the link to Train, Bus and Tube (Subway) Information. There you'll find a London tube map. The next link down - London Street Map will give you a street map of London - choose London Street and search, for example, for Sloane Square. All our rentals are within 10 minutes walk of a tube station, often less. Click the Map link on each property page to see the precise location.
- Style and character. What sort of place do you want to stay in - a flat (apartment) or a house? Is there a lift? Can you handle stairs? Remember that in England the ground, first and second floors are equivalent to the American first, second and third. What sort of style do you want? Grand? Traditional English? Simple and practical? Ultra contemporary? Does it have to be child friendly? Do you need access to a garden or to be close to a park? We have flats and houses in enough locations and styles to suit all tastes. All our properties have modern kitchens and bathrooms.
- Facilities.
- Parking. We really don't recommend that you have a car in London - driving is tricky if you haven't done it before and parking is murder (and very expensive). But sometimes a car is unavoidable and you may need parking at your accommodation. A number of our properties come with their own parking - these are flagged with P on our property listing pages.
- Broadband. A number of our properties have high speed, broadband internet connection - these are flagged with a I on our property listings.
- Long stay. Properties that may be available for longer stays (at a reduced price) are flagged L.
- Other. Some of our accommodations have free access to pool and gym facilities.
- Lanugage Differences.
